About Valerie Loo
Creator of Loo Movement®
Instructor of Yoga, Qigong, and Pilates
Licensed Physical Therapist, MPT
As a trained physical therapist and a certified instructor of QIgong, Yoga, and Pilates,
it goes without saying,
the body has always been my passion.
“My purpose is to teach you how to attune to your body in a way that helps you use it as it was designed to be used, and enjoy the vitality and resiliency that comes with proper alignment.”
Loo Movement® was born out of necessity and personal experience. As an alignment coach, physical therapist, former competitive athlete, and teacher, I can recognize and respond to the unique needs of each client and student because I have been in their shoes.
Loo Movement’s origin began when, as a former competitive gymnast, I started suffering from chronic back pain in my mid-30s. Despite having pain, I would seek out more adrenaline through extreme sports such as windsurfing, snowboarding, rock climbing, mountain biking, CrossFit, and surfing — anything with the high intensity I was accustomed to. However, it would eventually catch up with me. At the age of 38, after trying most conventional Western modalities with only temporary pain relief, I started to train in more alternative and Eastern practices. Incorporating Qigong, myofascial release, Reiki, meditation, and hypnotherapy created a complete solution for my body, mind, and spirit. Loo Movement is a reflection of this pursuit to replicate what gave me relief from my misalignments, pain, and inflammation. This method was not only extremely effective for me, but also for my clients. It was a holistic mind-body approach that offered new possibilities where traditional PT and care could not.

As a Bay Area native, I can be found taking walks and bike rides around town, retreating to Mexico City, which feels like my 2nd home, and enjoying deep conversations with friends and colleagues. I’m a continual explorer of movement and present-time awareness, which I realize makes me sound like a total wellness nerd. But I truly love what I do and am constantly seeking ways to deepen my understanding of the mind-body connection. While I draw from my practice of Qigong, Iyengar yoga, Feldenkrais, and Insight Meditation, my biggest source of inspiration is my daughter, Jessica, who is my greatest teacher.

About Loo Movement
Loo Movement®
is a new movement modality designed to help you return to a more optimal overall body alignment, before pain and inflammation limit you. It’s a unique blend of attunement to the body and a focus on structural spinal alignment. Valerie draws from her teaching experience in yoga, Qigong, and Pilates, and has created a new form of proactive physical therapy, Prehab.
Using the 6-Step Loo Movement® counter-shape method, an integrative approach that combines somatic learning, mindful movement, and intuitive hands-on cues, you can learn how to develop better sensory awareness of your body, reset the body back to optimal alignment and rewire your nervous system to dissolve your dysfunctional body patterns.
Loo Movement isn’t a quick fix, rather it’s a chance to slow down, get embodied, and learn how to listen to your body’s messages for the long game. If you stick with it, you’ll experience easeful movement and energizing alignment for years to come.
Loo Movement is an excellent way to defy the normal decline of our joints and be in partnership with your body, to take care of it as if you wanted it to last forever.

Loo Movement® is different from conventional physical therapy because instead of focusing on specific joint areas and treating the dysfunction, we focus on realignment of the whole body, through somatic sensory information from the body. The Loo Movement method allows you, the client, to develop sensory awareness of your body and learn how to respond with the 6-step counter-shape method.
Soon you’ll understand your body in a whole new way, and with Valerie’s guidance, you’ll begin to replace unconscious habits with healthy ones.
