How many sessions will I need?
Once we decide we’re a good fit, most people come for as long as they feel that they’re making progress. It all depends on your situation, time, budget, and personal goals. Loo Movement is most fruitful for those who integrate the work with the rest of their life, making it a regular practice. It’s a process that helps you better your relationship with your body. That transformative process, and the time it takes, is different for everyone.
What kind of past experience is helpful?
- Having a background in sports or movement practices such as yoga, dance, martial arts, or weight training can be very helpful, but is not required. If you enjoy exercise and taking care of your body, you’ll enjoy Loo Movement. If you’re someone who’s eager to develop your brain/body connection by accessing your body's natural intelligence, you’ll thrive with Loo Movement.
- Having a mindfulness practice also sets you up for success with Loo Movement, as we’ll put a lot of focus on present-time awareness, of noticing sensations in the body. And when we redirect your attention, you’ll be better prepared to notice how your body responds. New research in neural plasticity suggests we have the ability to change our physiology with our minds, and this is a premise I embrace.
How do I know if Loo Movement is a good fit for me?
Here are a few ways to tell if Loo Movement might be for you:
- You recognize nuanced change. Having an attuned system that picks up on subtle changes in your body is definitely helpful. Students of Loo Movement often describe this sensibility as subtle yet powerful.
- People who are good at visualizing as well as kinesthetic learning—learning through touch and tactile sensations—generally do very well with the approach, as I often teach using sensations, imagery, and light touch.
- If you already work with the felt sense or the mind/body connection, Loo Movement will only enrich that practice. Developing an intuition about your body is one of the main benefits of Loo Movement.
- We’ll be taking your awareness to a new level, so initially you may feel like a beginner. Which can be a good thing. A willingness to have "beginner's mind" can open door after door. Eventually, the practice of conscious alignment will come to feel like your natural way of moving.
- If you realize that you’re the best person for the job and want to learn to become an expert at moving and communicating with your own body, then Loo Movement will feel right as rain.
How is Loo Movement Different from Physical Therapy?
Loo Movement is not conventional physical therapy. Conventional P.T. is a medical treatment, and focuses on injury rehabilitation. Loo Movement is movement coaching for physical people already on a path to a higher wellness. If you want to follow your passions and expand your abilities safely, Loo Movement might be right for you.
